Shea Moisture recently came out with a hair color line that you all might love! Personally, I was tired of my boring, dull, and mundane black hair, but I was too afraid of risking my hair's health and luster just for the sake of color. Well, my curlies, Shea Moisture has done it once again! They have provided an ammonia-free alternative that features natural ingredients such as Organic Shea Butter and Flax Seed Oil to nourish and moisturize our curls and coils. The hair color line features over 12 different shades ranging from light blond to dark brown to bright auburn to jet black.

Now unfortunately, there are some cons. The product isn't all natural. There are some chemicals in the hair color that are needed in order to help lift your natural hair color, BUT there is absolutely NO AMMONIA! So if you're one of those natural girls who likes to stick to an all natural hair diet, then this product isn't for you; just stick to henna.
After weeks of waiting and anticipating, I finally found the Shea Moisture hair color in Target for a whopping $14.99; kind of pricey, I know, but I was always told that you get what you pay for! The packaging is gorgeous!! It features beautiful watercolor paintings of ethnic women. I found this to be quite unique and a plus in my book, since normally on boxes of hair color are photo shopped pictures of women. Although gorgeous and original., the packaging also made me kind of weary. How am I supposed to know what the hair color looks like from a painting?? Opened the flap on the box and voila-- found swatches of what the color would look like on different hair colors. I went in Target with intentions of getting SM's Bright Auburn but unfortunately, it was all sold out, so reluctantly I bought Dark Auburn.
Got home and COULD NOT WAIT to get this color in my head. I was so gung ho on dying my hair that I didn't even do the strand test as the manual instructed--BIG NO NO! The system includes Radiant Color Crème, Radiant Color Developer, Professional Latex-Gloves, Salon Application Brush,Raw Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo, Raw Shea Restorative Conditioner, and Raw Shea Reconstructive Finishing Elixir. Besides the hair strand test deviation, I followed the other directions as instructed. I let the dye set on my hair for 45 minutes and was pretty disappointed once I rinsed it out.
In natural light, my hair looks the same boring, mundane black that I wanted so badly to get away from, but once you shine light on it, you'll see dark burgundy/brown colors in my hair. I am happy that my curl pattern was not harmed, nor did the color dry out my hair. I've planned to deep condition my hair weekly in order to upkeep my hair. I also plan to try SM's bright auburn in about 6 weeks. Hopefully the results will be far from disappointing. Well that's all for right now.
